Steege's Shires is a breeding program
that started in 1976. Vern Steege began
raising shires while living in Montana.
He had previously raised Clydesdales, but
decided he liked the shire better. He could
not afford to buy the quality of shires
that he liked so he kept his best mares
and bought a purebred shire stallion. He
entered the American Shire Horse Association's
Grade Up Program. His horses all have clean, flat bones, good feet, and straight legs.
